Ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer had her last chance to win “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday.
As Gossip Cop has reported, the 12-year-old contestant has been one of the frontrunners and odds-on favorite to win season 12 of the NBC talent competition. On the season premiere back in May, the self-described shy tween stunned when she did a hilarious routine with her bunny puppet Petunia. Mel B pushed her Golden Buzzer, which sent Farmer straight to the live shows. That meant after skipping the Judge Cuts, the Quarterfinals marked only the second time she’d be in front of the judges and America.
Of course, everyone loved her again. That time, Farmer’s rat puppet, Oscar, sang in honor of his favorite judge, Mel B, natch. Then for the semifinals two weeks ago, the aspiring star had a new puppet, an old lady, who turned her attention to a different judge. Farmer’s new dummy was no dummy and serenaded Simon Cowell with “Natural Woman.” The music mogul and “AGT” producer told her afterward, “This was brilliant. You’re funny and you’ve got a wicked sense of humor.” And both Mel B and Howie Mandel predicted she’ll win the whole shebang. But before becoming $1 million richer, Farmer and nine other finalists had to take the stage at the Dolby Theater once more.
Prior to her entrance, Farmer revealed in her opening package that fans have been sending videos of themselves doing ventriloquism after watching her. She adorably said she would’ve told people they were “crazy” if they told her two years ago she’d be in the “AGT” finals. She added, “It’s just unbelievable. I am one performance away from maybe winning ‘America’s Got Talent.’ I’m just hoping for it.” On stage, Oscar hilariously fainted when he learned the show was live, while Petunia was showing some diva behavior. The two puppets then argued over who would sing and who did more in the competition. That led to a funny joke about Cowell and Mel not getting along.
It was then decided they would sing “With A Little Help From My Friends.” Said Petunia, “That’s funny. A mouse and a bunny singing a song written by two Beatles.” Farmer then pulled off the musical performances with dual voices. Perhaps needless to say, but a standing ovation followed. Mel exclaimed, “You are just hands down incredible. You’re 12 years old, right? You’re self-taught. You were so shy. And I’ve said this from the beginning, you can win this.”
“You are amazing and it has been amazing watching you all season,” Heidi Klum said. “You just have that special something not everyone has and you might have just won that $1 million.” Cowell told Farmer, “The best part of doing this job is when you can say I was at the beginning of someone’s career and I witnessed a star. Tonight, I just witnessed a star… I think you’re gonna win.” Added Howie Mandel, “I think that everybody’s right… You remind me of every reason that I got into this business… You delivered.” Check out the video below!
