Novelist Mark Twain’s troublemaking main character Huckleberry Finn was full of mischievousness in his stories, just like a popular pooch by the same name, Huckleberry.
This golden retriever resides in Austin, Texas, where his antics have become widely known. In fact, if you happen to live in their area – it’s pretty hard to miss him.
Huck’s owners Allie and Justin at first were completely freaked out when they discovered that their rambunctious rover could climb up onto the roof.
Turns out, not only could he climb up there, he enjoyed it!
The couple discovered that there is a 2.5- to three-foot clearance between a hill in their backyard and the lowest part of their roof that he could easily scale as he grew older.
They anticipated Huck would eventually explore the backyard and find it out for himself.
“It took him about six months to figure out the roof was an extension of his back yard. He now goes up every single time we let him outside.”
People passing by were frequently shocked when they saw Huck on the roof and would go knock on the door to alert his owners.
Allie and Justin are accustomed to their dog’s silly affection for sunning himself on the roof and watching cars go by.
But they soon grew weary of all the well-intentioned motorists stopping to let them know that their dog was on the roof. So they decided to create a fun sign they posted by their front door that alerts owners to Huck’s rooftop tendencies.
They also encourage people to follow Huck’s adventures on social media. Their sign has garnered a lot of attention, too. It reads:
“We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball! We appreciate your concern, but please do not knock on the door … we know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog”
While Huck’s rooftop frivolities are the talk of the town, he’s gone global. You can even see a sort of grin on his face while he’s perched up there. Isn’t Huck adorably hilarious?!
